  • Tools are stored in sanitized containers

  • Single-use disposable tools are used wherever applicable and discarded after one client

Treatment Room

  • The treatment room is fully sanitized between every client, including all surfaces, treatment chair, side tables, and frequently touched areas

  • Fresh, clean linens are provided for every client

  • Linens are laundered with high-temperature wash cycles between uses

Hand Hygiene

  • Hands are thoroughly washed and sanitized before and after every client

  • Gloves are worn during all services

  • Hand sanitizer is available for client use

Product Application

  • Products are dispensed from sanitary containers using clean spatulas, applicators, or disposable tools

  • Products are never re-dipped into containers after touching the skin

  • Open products are stored properly to prevent contamination

Disposables

  • Cotton rounds, gauze, tissues, gloves, and other single-use items are discarded after each client

  • Disposal of regulated materials follows New York State health code

4. Products We Use

Baru Skin Care uses professional-grade skincare products selected for safety, efficacy, and skin compatibility. Our product selection includes:

  • Hale & Hush — A premium product line specifically formulated for sensitive, compromised, and oncology-appropriate skin

  • Other professional-grade brands carefully selected based on each client's skin type, condition, and concerns

Product Standards All products used at Baru Skin Care meet our internal standards for:

  • Cruelty-free — Not tested on animals

  • Vegan options — Available for clients who prefer plant-based formulations

  • Mineral-based sunscreens — For safe, non-irritating sun protection

  • Botanical and plant-derived ingredients — Where possible and appropriate

  • Free from harsh, unnecessary additives — When suitable alternatives exist

Product selection for each client is determined during consultation based on skin type, condition, allergies, sensitivities, and treatment goals.

5. Allergy and Sensitivity Protocols

Client safety begins with a thorough understanding of each client's history.

Before Any Service:

  • Every new client completes a detailed intake form disclosing allergies, sensitivities, medications, and medical conditions

  • Alejandra reviews the intake form personally before beginning service

  • Product ingredients are reviewed against any disclosed allergies or sensitivities

  • Clients are asked to confirm any updates to their health status at every visit

During the Service:

  • Patch tests may be performed on sensitive areas before applying new products

  • Clients are encouraged to communicate immediately if they experience any discomfort, stinging, burning, or unusual sensation

  • Services may be modified or stopped at any time if a reaction is observed

Client Responsibility: You are responsible for accurately and completely disclosing all known allergies, sensitivities, and medical conditions. Failure to disclose may compromise your safety and may release Baru Skin Care from liability for any resulting reactions.

6. Illness and Infectious Disease Policy

To protect the health and safety of all clients and staff, the following policies apply:

Client Illness Clients are asked to reschedule their appointment if they have any of the following:

  • Active fever or illness

  • Active cold, flu, or respiratory infection

  • Contagious skin condition (active herpes outbreak, conjunctivitis, impetigo, ringworm, etc.)

  • Active infection of any kind

  • COVID-19 symptoms or recent diagnosis

  • Any other communicable illness

Rescheduling due to illness is allowed without penalty when proper notice is given.

Clients arriving visibly ill may be asked to reschedule for the safety of Alejandra and other clients.

Recent Exposure If you have had recent exposure to a contagious illness (within 14 days), please notify us before your appointment. We will discuss whether your appointment should proceed, be modified, or be rescheduled.

Alejandra Illness If Alejandra is unable to provide service due to illness, you will be notified the morning of your appointment, and your appointment will be rescheduled at no penalty. Your deposit will remain on file or be refunded if you choose not to reschedule.

7. Mask Policy

In line with current public health guidance:

  • Masks are optional for both clients and staff

  • Clients who prefer to wear a mask are welcome and encouraged to do so

  • Clients may request that Alejandra wear a mask during their service, and we will accommodate this request without question

  • During periods of elevated community illness or by client request, mask use may be increased at our discretion

8. Emergency Preparedness

We are prepared to respond appropriately to medical emergencies and adverse situations:

On-Site Safety Equipment

  • Fully stocked first aid kit is maintained on premises

  • Emergency exit procedures are clearly understood and marked

  • Emergency contact information is collected for every client and kept on file

Emergency Response Protocol

In the event of an adverse reaction, medical incident, or emergency:

  1. Service is stopped immediately

  2. Appropriate first aid is administered as needed

  3. Emergency services (911) are contacted if the situation warrants

  4. Your emergency contact and/or physician may be notified

  5. The incident is thoroughly documented for your records

We strongly encourage clients to provide accurate, current emergency contact information at every visit.

9. Oncology Client Safety

Clients receiving services through our Oncology-Safe Skincare Program follow additional safety protocols, including required consultation, medical clearance, and specialized product selection.

For complete information on oncology safety standards, please review our Oncology Client Disclaimer.

10. Special Considerations

The following situations require additional caution and may affect service delivery:

Pregnancy Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding must disclose this on the intake form. Certain treatments, ingredients, and techniques may be modified or avoided during pregnancy. We will tailor services to be safe and appropriate.

Recent Cosmetic Procedures Clients who have had recent cosmetic procedures (Botox, fillers, chemical peels, laser treatments, microneedling, etc.) must disclose this on the intake form. Service modifications or delays may be required:

  • Avoid retinols, acids, exfoliating, and waxing for 3–5 days before facial services

  • Avoid these treatments for 1 week before dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, or nano infusion facials

  • Avoid Botox for 2 weeks before any treatment

Medications Clients using certain medications — particularly Accutane, Retin-A, Tazorac, Renova, Differin, Azelex, or alpha hydroxy acids — must disclose this. These medications may affect skin sensitivity and require service modifications.

Recent Skin Cancer or Skin Conditions Clients with a history of skin cancer or active skin conditions must disclose this and may require physician clearance before certain services.

Sun Exposure We recommend avoiding excessive sun exposure for 24–48 hours before and after most facial services.

11. Aftercare Instructions

After every service, clients receive verbal and (when appropriate) written aftercare instructions tailored to the treatment received. Following aftercare instructions is essential for:

  • Achieving the best results from your treatment

  • Protecting your skin during the healing process

  • Avoiding adverse reactions or complications

Failure to follow aftercare instructions may compromise your results and may release Baru Skin Care from liability for any negative outcomes that result.

12. Studio Environment

To maintain a safe and pleasant environment:

  • The studio is cleaned and sanitized regularly throughout the day

  • Air quality is maintained through proper ventilation

  • Lighting and temperature are adjusted for client comfort

  • Music volume is kept at a soothing level

  • An outdoor area is available for clients who prefer to wait or relax outside before or after their service

13. Client Responsibilities

To support a safe environment for everyone, clients are asked to:

  • Provide accurate health information on intake forms and updates

  • Communicate any discomfort during services immediately

  • Follow pre-treatment and aftercare instructions carefully

  • Reschedule when ill to protect Alejandra and other clients

  • Disclose any new medications, treatments, or conditions between visits

  • Arrive with clean skin (no makeup) when requested for specific services

  • Treat the studio space respectfully and observe studio conduct guidelines
